How do I find the perfect travel time in Costa Rica?
To answer this question you an analyse air tables and the average rainfall. You will find out, that there is the dry season from november to april, and the rainy season from may to october.
You won’t find a big difference between the temperatures around the year and you will see that we don’ t have winter here. This is why Costa Rica is one of the countries with the best climate on earth. Not to hot and not to cold.
There is a tropical climate with little differences around the year. At the caribbean it can be raining and at the north pacific it can get up to 40 degrees.
Costa Rica has several differnet microclimates so it is good to know what you want to do in Costa Rica.

To answer the question of the best travelling time in Costa Rica, ask yourself the following:
Why do I want to travel to Costa Rica and where can I find what I am looking for?
Am I looking for a a hike at the rainforest or do I just want to be at the beach; do I want to learn how to surf or do I want to see animals?
If I come to Costa Rica because I’m fascinated by the green country and its nature, then the rain season (also called green season) might be the best option for you. Even Costa Rica needs rain to show its wonderfull flora and in some regions, like the province Guanacaste, you won’t see a lot of this green during the dry season.
Do you visit Costa Rica to see the egg laying of turtles and see the baby turtles hatch?
Maybe you also want to stay for a week to participate at a voluntary program to save this wonderful, threathend with extinction animals, like the loggerhead turtle?
The letherback turtle can become 2 meters long and comes for egg laying between december and march to the pacific coast.
The Green Seaturtle visits the atlantic coast between june and october.

Or are you dreaming about seeing the biggest mammal of the planet live and do whale watching?
The best time for whale watching is betwenn july and october. You can find this impressive animals at the south pacific close to Uvita, around the nationalpark Ballena (whale in spanish) until the tourist destination Manuel Antonio. The way of the whales also crosses the north pacific.
You can watch dolphines all year.

Do you want to lay at the beach and let the sun shine on your belly?
For this, the dry season between november and april is the best option.
You’re not good with the heat?
Visit San Gerado de Dota or Monteverde. It is cool there around the whole year and the best climate for a long hike.
You don’t want to do white water rafting during a flood but the river should not be dried out either.
If you want to to ziplining it shouldn’t be during a thunder storm and for divers the dry season is the best.
Surfer will find the perfect wave during the whole year.
Are you looking for lost beaches and peace? Don’t forget that between december and february there are vacation in Costa Rica and the are beaches full.

Are you short of cash? Then I would recommend you the green season between may and october. Hotels are not booked out and often offer discounts at this season. The Flexi- Voucher Program might be interessting for you!
My general recommendation about the weather: Don’t be like a sloth, get up early.
Usually it starts raining in the afternoon, so use the hours of the sun in the morning for tours, the beach and hikes in the rainforest. In Costa Rica you never know what the next hours might bring.
At your daily backpack the sunscreen and protection for rain should never be missing.
And if you really have bad luck and it’s raining a whole day, think about Bob Marley: “Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.”
Go to the rainforest, there it is usually raining and the treetops are so dense, that the raindrops barely get to the hiking trails. And anyways, in Costa Rica it is always warm.

The perfect time to travel to Costa Rica is an individual decision of your own travel expectation and your own priorities.
You can call Costa Rica an all- year- destination and it’s worth to dicover this beautiful country at any time of the year with its diverse zones and animals.
Every month has got its charm and thanks to the climate change we don’t know how the weather is going to be anyways.
Even at the dry season it can be raining sometimes and in the rainy season there is sometimes no rain for days.
Just come and don’t bother yourself if it’s pouring rain for two hours. That only means to slow down time and lay down with a tropical cocktail in a hammock and read a good book. Pura Vida!
At which time are you planning to visit Costa Rica? I’m happy about your comments!
